Vuelta a la "esclavitud" ~ Back to "slavery"

Aquella era una civilización cruel.
Cierto día, sus hombres descubrieron y capturaron a otro “hombre”. Antes el desconcierto general, aquel ser presentaba su piel de un color negro. Estaba desnudo yu hablaba en una lengua ininteligible.
Y los poderosos, de mutuo acuerdo, decidieron esclavizarlo. Aquel ser fue bautizado con el nombre de Dred Scott. Después de no pocos estudios e informes, los hombres blancos llegaron al as siguientes conclusiones:
“1ª. Aun cuando posea un corazón y un cerebro, y biológicamente se le considere humano, un esclavo no es una “persona” ante la Ley.
“2ª. Un hombre negro sólo recibe su personalidad jurídica al ser libertado; antes de eso no debemos preocuparnos por él, pues no tiene derechos ante la Ley.
“3ª. Si usted considera que la esclavitud es mala, nadie le obliga a tener un esclavo, pero no le imponga su moral a los demás.
“4ª. Un hombre blanco tiene el derecho de hacer lo que desee con su propiedad.
“5ª. ¿No es acaso la esclavitud más humanitaria? Después de todo, ¿no tiene el hombre negro el derecho de ser protegido? ¿No es mejor, acaso, ser esclavo que ser enviado sin preparación o experiencia a un mundo cruel?”

(La llamada “Decisión Dred Scott” fue ratificada
por la Corte Suprema de los Estados
Unidos en 1857.)

Estas “conclusiones”, naturalmente, fueron hechas por personas –hombres blancos- que ya eran libres.
Y ocurrió que un siglo más tarde, aquella civilización sin piedad llegó a construir sofisticados instrumentos científicos, capaces de penetrar en el interior del cuerpo humano. Así fue como descubrieron a otro ser, también con forma humana, pero incapaz de hablar y de un tamaño tan reducido que podría caber en la palma de la mano de un hombre adulto.
Los científicos y poderosos volvieron a reunirse y, de mutuo acuerdo, decidieron matarlo.
Pero antes, y después de no pocos estudios e informes, llegaron a las siguientes conclusiones:
“1ª. Aun cuando posea un corazón y un cerebro, y biológicamente se le considere humano, el niño no nacido no es “una persona” ante la Ley.
“2ª. Un bebé sólo adquiere personalidad jurídica al nacer; antes de eso no debemos preocuparnos por é, pues no tiene derechos ante la Ley.
“3ª. Si usted considera que el aborto es malo, nadie le obliga a hacerse uno, pero no le imponga su moralidad a los demás.
“4ª. Una mujer tiene el derecho a hacer lo que desee con su propio cuerpo.
“5ª. ¿No es acaso el aborto más humanitario? Al fin y al cabo, ¿no tienen todos los bebés el derecho de ser “deseados” y amados? ¿No es mejor, acaso, que jamás llegue a nacer el niño, antes que se tenga que enfrentar solo y sin amor a un mundo cruel?”
Estas afirmaciones, al igual que había sucedido con la esclavitud, también fueron hechas por personas que ya habían nacido.

That was a cruel civilization.
A certain day, its men discovered and caught another “man”. To everybody’s confusion, the being presented black colored skin. He was naked, and spoke an unintelligible tongue.
And the powerful, by common consent, decided to enslave it. That being was baptized with the name Dred Scott. After not little studies and reports, white men reached the following conclusions:
“1ª. Even though he has a heart and a brain, and is biologically considered human, a slave is not a “person” in Law.
“2ª. A black man only receives his juridical personality when being released; before that we mustn’t worry about him, for he has no rights in law.
“3ª. If u consider slavery is bad, nobody forces you to own a slave, but don’t impose your morality to others.
“4ª. A white man has the right to do as he wants with his property.
“5ª. Isn’t slavery more humanitarian? After all, doesn’t the black man have a right to be protected? Isn’t is better, then, to be a slave than to be thrown without preparation nor experience to a cruel world?”

(The called “Dred Scott Decision” was confirmed
by the Supreme Court of the United
States on 1857.)

These “conclusions”, naturally, were made by persons –white men- who were already free.
And so happened that after a century, that civilization without mercy managed to make sophisticated scientific instruments, capable of penetrating the interior of the human body. That is how they discovered another being, also with human shape, but unable to speak and of such a reduced size that it could fit in a grown human’s hand.
The scientists and the powerful got together again, and of common consent, decided to kill it.
But before, and after not little research and reports, they reached the following conclusions:
“1ª. Even though it has a heart and a brain, and it biologically considered human, the unborn child is not “a person” in Law.
“2ª. A baby only acquires a juridical personality when born, before that we mustn’t worry about it, for it has no rights in Law.
“3ª. If u consider abortion is bad, nobody forces to have one done, but don’t impose ur morality to others.
“4ª. A woman has a right to do as she wishes with her own body.
“5ª. Isn’t abortion more humanitarian? After all, don’t all babies have the right to be “wanted” and loved? Isn’t it better, then, to keep the child from being born, instead of having it face a cruel world alone and without love?”
These statements, as it had happened with slavery, were also made by persons who were already born.
